If you are one of the many people who hear ringing in your ears with no external sound present, you may be suffering from tinnitus (pronounced tin-ni-tis). At Coastal Hearing Aid Center, we understand how tinnitus can interfere with your life and offer the latest therapies to help mitigate your symptoms. We can help reduce or silence the ringing in your ears with our tinnitus management in Oceanside, CA.
What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a common condition that can cause you to hear a ringing, rushing, or buzzing in your ears. Tinnitus is present in approximately 75% of all people with some form of hearing loss. While it will not cause you to lose your hearing, tinnitus is a leading indicator of all levels of hearing loss.
Management Through Therapies
Tinnitus varies from person to person and can upset your quality of life. Although there is no cure for tinnitus, Christopher M. Sumer, NBC-HIS, and Jennifer Hill, MS, LPCC proudly provide the following therapies to help reduce the intensity of tinnitus:
Sound Therapy – Uses external noise in order to alter your perception of, or reaction to, tinnitus.
Zen Therapy – Lessens the negative effect tinnitus has on your quality of life through counseling, amplification, Zen tones, and relaxation techniques.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Trains you to recognize negative or inaccurate thinking patterns so you can better cope with and respond to them in a more effective manner.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) – Teaches skills like mindfulness and emotional regulation to help people learn how to handle distress and negative emotion. DBT teaches you to be present within the moment, thus reducing anxiety and depression, and improving your ability to interact with others.
Neurofeedback (EEG or electroencephalogram) biofeedback – Is a therapeutic intervention that provides immediate feedback from a computer-based program that assesses a client’s brainwave activity. The program then uses sound or visual signals to reorganize or retrain these brain signals.
